September 6 - country western dance

The inaugural dance event of the 2026-2027 Club Square Dance Schedule is now in the books. Once again it was an SRO crowd as 28 Promenaders welcomed 17 Guest Visitors on Sunday afternoon September 6th.
This inaugural event was ably called by the familiar Art "Tex" Lavigne and his excellent themed calls. The inaugural 50/50 $30 prize was won by former Guest Visitor and now new member Michelle Nido. The next dance is on Friday September 18th at 7:30pm and will be called by Mike McIntyre. By the way, the theme of the dance is "Open Mic Jokes" with a Webmaster award for the funniest joke. There will be a joke sign-up sheet at the registration desk. |

September 16 - dance Class

Things settled down a bit at the 2nd square dance class Open House on Wednesday September 16th. Thirteen of the 22 students returned from the open house on 9/9 and welcomed 3 new students to the fray. Of course, all 16 students were ably assisted by the 29 Club Angels, all to the methodical Mainstream instructions from Club Instructor Dan "The Maestro" Grimes. Things will begin to take shape for the 2026-2027 Square Dance Class when we see how many of the 16 students from the 2 open houses return to class #3 on September 23rd. Only time will tell.

August 30 - Baker Park Demo

Continuing a long relationship, the Promenaders and Guests performed a square dancing demonstration at Baker Park just before the last Frederick Summer Concerts in the park event. The Club uses this demo as a promo for our upcoming Square Dance Lessons Class that begins on Wednesday September 9th. As usual, the demo was ably called by Art Lavigne. Near the end of the event several onlookers, seen in the video on the left, participated in one of the calls.
August 22 - gad-abouts pie night dance

A Plentiful Smorgasbord Soiree
The pies were plentiful, the calls of Art were plentiful, the cues of Butch and Roberta were plentiful, and the camaraderie amongst the crowd was plentiful at the Gad-Abouts Pie Night Dance last night in Funkstown MD. Your webmaster was in attendance and sampled each and every pie.

August 21 - Life's a Beach dance

There were 4 + squares of Promenaders and Guests at the final Summer Sizzler dance on August 21. This “Life’s a Beach” themed event was called by Terry “The Beachcomber” Headlee, who as usual, provided excellent songs to supplement the theme. The table of snacks was full of those delectable delights.

August 16 - jefferson County Fair

On Sunday August 16th, 4 Promenaders joined up with a contingent of Panhandlers to perform their annual demo at the Jefferson County Fair in Charles Town West Virginia. Afterwards the group was treated to a nice dinner at the Jefferson Ruritan building. Then the group continued to demo at the dinner venue. Two guests joined the group in that demo.
August 7 - Hippie Summer Sizzler

There were 5 squares of 60's Hippies dancing to the calls of teen phenom Grant Moser. Grant provided his unique calling style and songs to this event. A return to the 1960's brought back vivid memories for your Webmaster as he and 3 friends attended the 1969 soggy weekend cultural phenomenon on a hillside in Bethel NY called "Woodstock".
August 1 - Frederick Keys Game

Despite the Keys loss it was a banner night at the Keys game on Saturday August 1st. Eleven Promenaders and 2 guests enjoyed the overcast evening with a stellar fireworks display after the game. The Webmaster awarded 4 door prizes during the fifth inning. Kevin Sullivan, Lois Koontz, and Ron Welke won Panera gift cards and Barbara Stastny won the Keys supplied insulated lunch bag. Guest visitor Ray Davis managed to snag the Keys tossed hot dog that practically landed at his feet. The Webmaster duly noted that Ray did not share his hot dog with the other 12 hungry Promenaders.
July 24 Ice Cream Social

It was another SRO crowd at the Summer Sizzler Square Dance and Rounds extravaganza called the Ice Cream Social on July 24th. Forty + dancers square danced and rounded the night away with a 1/2 hour break to enjoy the mountains of various flavored ice creams and many delectable associated toppings. The square dance calls were ably provided by Caller John Marshall and the rounds were conducted by Butch Bloxom and Roberta Harris. The next Summer Sizzler is the Hippies Dance on Friday August 7th at 7:30pm featuring 17 year old Caller Grant Moser who is making his Promenader debut.
July 22 Summer Wednesday Workshop

Hallelujah !!! Twenty-one dancers including the 5 recent Class Graduates completed the final Summer Wednesday Workshop. Once again the concentration was on some of the PLUS and Advanced Calls that presented problems to the dancers.
Dan Grimes was able to complete all of the PLUS calls during this workshop. There are 3 Summer Sizzler dances remaining before the 2026-2027 Club Dance Schedule and the 2026-2027 Mainstream Dance Class begin in September. |
July 12 happy 250th birthday

There was a Grand USA 250th Birthday Party (Square Dance Style) at the Promenaders dance on July 12th. The birthday revelers included 28 Promenaders and 10 Guest Visitors all being serenaded by Caller Terry "Uncle Sam" Headlee. As you can see, Terry was dressed very appropriately for this event. Terry capped off the afternoon of many patriotic calls with God Bless America. The Club also welcomed 3 new members for the upcoming dance season in September. They are former Guest Visitors Suzanne Morgan, recently graduated student Christine Faschini, and former Guest Visitor Michele Nido. The Club welcomes them to the fold.
June 28 club picnic

There were over 40 attendees that included Promenaders, Guests, and Guests of Guests at the Club Picnic on Sunday afternoon June 28th. It was a full agenda of business related items, food, white elephant sale, and a Webmaster Trivia Quiz. Fun, friendship, and camaraderie was enjoyed by all attendees. The wiining team of the Trivia Quiz with 48 points was made up of Christine F, Fred B, Barbara B, and Gene M.

Holey Moley, for the 3rd Club Event in a row, there was an SRO crowd as 5 Sizzlin' Squares dancing to the calls, rounds, and lines dances, of Caller "Extraordinaire" Mike McIntyre.
As usual there was a multitude of snacks for the Sizzlers including a cake for Bonnie and Jerry Pollack for their 60th Wedding Anniversary. The last round that ended the evening was a huge oval formation of Sizzlers that encompassed the entire girth of the hall. The entire crowd was saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Guest Visitor Arlie Morgan. RIP Arlie. |
June 5 flag day dance

There was another SRO crowd with 26 Promenaders welcoming 20 Guest Visitors to their Flag Day Dance on June 5th.
They were all entertained by the patriotic calls of first time Promenader caller David Black and the cueing of club favorite Cuers Butch and Roberta. There was also a plethora of delectable food items spread across the 9 foot table in the kitchen area. |
June 3 summer Wednesday workshop

The Summer events kicked off on June 3rd with the first of 8 workshops. The workshops help the recently graduated students practice all of the previously learned Mainstream and PLUS calls. The 5 students were supported by the usual cast of Club Angels.
The 5 students were given their official Graduation Certificates by Club Presidents Marjorie Barber, Andrea Smith, and Club Instructor Dan Grimes. Also given their certificates from the 2024-2025 class were former students Janie Casey and Mary Ann Williams. Also, student Chris Cason was given his Outstanding Attendance Awards by the Webmaster. |
May 22 club anniversary dance
There was an SRO crowd of 25 Promenaders, 16 Guest Visitors, and 4 students at the Club Anniversary Dance on May 22nd. The SRO crowd relished in the calls of Caller Art LaVigne. There was also plenty of snacks for everyone. Students Fred Barnette and Susan Boyne received Webmaster recognition and awards for their PERFECT attendance for the PLUS lessons class. This dance marks the end of the 2025-2026 club dance schedule. The 2026-2027 club dance schedule begins on Sunday September 6th. Meanwhile you can enjoy the 6 Summer Sizzler dances begining on Friday June 5th.
may 9 frederick keys baseball game
Twenty-One Promenaders and Guests took a short road trip over to Harry Grove Stadium for the minor league baseball game on a perfect night. The visit was enhanced by a great giveaway of a colorful Keys summer shirt to the first 1,000 fans. In addition to the Keys giveaway, there were 6 door prizes awarded to the group. Guest George Dodge and Promenader Andrea Smith won the featured door prizes, a gift card to IHOP. Other door prizes awarded were Keys cooler bags, a Keys shirt, and a Keys baseball cap. By the way the Keys went down 10-1 after 4 innings but scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th for a 10-5 loss. The loss snapped a 5 game Keys winning streak.
April 24 Hobbies dance

Twenty-two Club Angels and 4 students welcomed 3 Guest Visitors to the Hobbies Dance on April 24th. Two tables were set up for Hobby Participants to display there wares. Fred Barnette, a club student, entertained the crowd with the playing of his hobby, a trumpet. Fred also talked about his past exploits that involved playing the trumpet. As you can see in the hobby video above, we have many talented square dancers across many hobby spectrums. Oh, by the way, Caller Art Lavigne, has a hobby also. His is square dance calling and he is excellent at his hobby.
april 10 easter/spring dance

Spring was in the air as 26 club members and 4 club students welcomed 14 guest visitors to their Easter/Spring bunny-hop dance on April 10th. The dancers were entertained by the exceptional calling of Caller Art LaVigne and Cuer Butch Bloxom. There were 5 Door Prizes given out as well as the regular 50/50 raffle and the 2nd Losers 50/50 raffle drawings. Ed Kiebler won the Losers 50/50 raffle drawing on the first ticket drawn. Ed is going to the Olive Garden as his reward. By the way, the Easter Bunny was seen hip-hopping along during the bunny hop call. The April birthdays were celebrated with a birthday cake supplied by birthday boy Ed Kiebler.

march 20 - March Madness dance

The March Madness Dance, that was relocated to the Ballenger Community Center, had 32 Club Members welcoming 9 Guest Visitors to the current stomping grounds of the Promenader's Dance Class. The center ably accommodated the 5 squares with some room to spare. The Guest Caller was the well-known Terry Headlee. Terry is seen leading the line dancing.

Sixteen Angels supported 5 students at PLUS class #6. Two new calls were introduced by Club Instructor Dan "The Maestro" Grimes. To date the students have been taught 14 of the 36 PLUS calls.

march 1 - pajama party dance

Twenty-two Guest Visitors and 30 Promenaders formed 6 squares at the Pajama Party Dance on March 1st.
Nine of the Guest Visitors, pictured above, were from the Village Swingers, who had evil intentions at this dance. They stole our travel banner before they left and high-tailed it down 270. Our sneaky Club President is already planning a secret mission to recover our prize possesion. |

february 28 - calvary united methodist demo

The Promenaders were asked to perform a demo on February 28th for the "Country Western Hoe Down" at the Calvary United Methodist Church in downtown Frederick. Nineteen Promenaders led by the Club President attended this great event. A nice bonus at this event was a luscious pot luck dinner featuring a "Pretzel Jello" dessert provided by the hosts. After the usual demo by 2 squares of Promenaders, a horde of church members and visitors joined the Promenaders for a 7 square hoe down.

It was a ChiliFest Supreme at the Super Bowl Chili dance on Sunday February 1st. The aroma from 7 crockpots filled the air inside the MPRC. There were 3 tables of chili pots and associated condiments along with a table of desserts. Added to the mix was the superb calling of Gest Caller Terry Headlee. The Club welcomed 19 Guests including 2 Guest Students. A Special Thank You goes out to Promenader Lois Roney who was the chief coordinator of this delicious event.
january 16 - NEON dance

Was it the NEON aura of the lights on Broadway in NYC?
No, but it certainly fit the bill for our Neon Dance on January 16th at the MPRC in Walkersville, MD. Seventeen visitors, and club members and students sported NEON attire, mostly glow sticks worn around their necks. The dance also celebrated the 90th birthday of long-time club member Jerry Pollock. The calls were ably conducted by Club Caller Mike "Mr. Broadway" McIntyre. |
january 4 - new years dance

It was an SRO crowd of New Years revelers as six + squares of Promenaders, Students, and Guest Visitors attended the New Years Dance on Sunday afternoon January 4th. The Guest Caller was Dayle Hodge and the Guest Cuers were Butch Bloxom and Roberta Harris. In addition to the usual Cuer led round dancing there was old-fashioned sock-hop dancing led by the Cuers.
january 11 - student dance - Catonsville MD

On January 11th, Dance Class Coordinator Andrea S along with Promenaders Sandy B, Mike S, Ray E, Andrew P, and Leah B, accompanied by current class students Fred and Barbara B, traveled down I-70 East to Catonsville MD for the student dance. Fred and Barbara carried with them their perfect attendance in the Mainstream Class.
