I am Mike McIntyre. I have enjoyed calling and teaching thru the plus level since 1981. My first club was the Single Wheels of Casper, Wyo., which I called for from January of 1983 until I moved my immediate family (wife ‘Sam’ and daughter Cindy) to Virginia in October of 1986. I first settled in Manassas, where I became the Caller for the Rawhide and Ruffles in Jan. of 1987. Through the years I have called and cued for The Westernairs of Hagerstown, Md., and Blue Ridge Twirlers of Winchester, VA., Apple Valley Squares of Winchester (2009 – 2017), Shenandoah Exhibition Dancers.
I moved to Winchester in Aug. of 1987, I have made it my home. I am now presently calling and cueing for the Rivermont Ramblers of Front Royal, VA. since the early 90’s. Lake Frederick Squares was started in Nov. of 2017, and I am now the Club caller for the Frederick County Promenaders as of Sept. 2019. I am a member of Callerlab, Shenandoah Valley Callers Council, Virginia State Callers Association, BMI/ASCAP License.
For a note of interest, Cindy and I were members of the High Country Riders (a horseback drill team) back in the early 1980’s. I introduced Square Dancing to the team which we incorporated square dancing in the drills, opening rodeos including the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in 1985 and 1986. I can tell you that it takes 3 times the amount of beats to music to accomplish a call on horseback.
I have a website, mike-mcintyre.strikingly.com , that I have put together to help new dancers, with links to helpful sites, what calls will be taught next, what the clubs are up to, etc.
The Dance is the glue that holds the dancers together. These dancers are all my friends, my inspiration, the reason I have continued to call for 35 years and counting. I am always looking for new friends to join this activity.
See you on the dance floor,
Mike
